STAR-TOPPED MINCE PIES by Nigella Lawson

The kids have a couple weeks off from school for Christmas and the relatives are coming for a visit soon. The best part of the holidays is having some time off to spend with your family. Try this fun and easy Christmas recipe with your kids. Doing things together and create lasting traditions will bring everyone closer. Celebrate the season with this yummy, fun, and easy recipe with your kids!


Ingredients
for the pastry
1 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
5 tablespoons vegetable shortening
½ stick cold butter
juice of 1 orange
1 pinch of salt
approx. ⅔ cup mincemeat
confectioners' sugar (for dusting)

for the cranberry studded mincemeat - makes about 600ml / 2½ cups
¼ cup ruby port
½ cup soft dark brown sugar
3 cups cranberries
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon ground cloves
½ cup currants
½ cup raisins
¼ cup dried cranberries
finely grated zest and juice of 1 clementine
2 tablespoons brandy
3 drops almond extract
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons honey
